Recovery
Returning to normal after an outage
Restart appliances gradually; apply additional official precautions after flooding or evacuation.
- 1
Restart gradually
When power returns, do not switch all household electrical appliances back on at once: this can overload the supply.
- 2
After flooding: wait for permission
Follow authorities’ instructions before re-entering a building or starting cleanup. Restored power alone does not mean a damaged building is safe.
- 3
After flooding: check utilities
Check whether gas and electricity can safely be reactivated; ask a technician when needed.
- 4
Check food and water
Follow municipal drinking-water notices after flooding and discard food exposed to floodwater. Consult the food-safety guide for related precautions.
